OCWA Conference 2016 – Jesus Christ Conquers

The Orthodox Christian Women’s Association is holding their 7th Educational Conference. This year’s theme is “Jesus Christ Conquers”.

Keynote address: Fr. Nicholas Greanias – “Conquering with Christ and Evangelizing the World”

Breakout session 1: Fr. Nikola Radovancevic – “The Liturgy Before the Liturgy: Proskomedia and Its Significance for Laypeople”

Breakout session 2: Subdeacon Curtis Dowling – “Orthodox Christian Education and Retaining our Youth”

Lunch will also feature the ever-popular “Stump Your Parish Priest” question and answer session.

Books, icons, and other items will be available for sale.

OCWA Scholarship Dinner

As previously posted (here), the OCWA sponsors a scholarship for a high school student going into college and for a graduate student enrolled in a graduate program. The entries have been received, and the winners will be announced at our award dinner.

Speaking at this event will be our special guest, Dr. Philip Nayler, PhD Professor at Marquette University on the topic “Byzantium’s Enterprising Empressess: Gender & the Exercise of Power and Influence”

Donations for the Cathedral Center will also be collected at the dinner. Items that are needed include Socks (adult/child), adult mittens/gloves, underwear, bus passes, warm outerwear, snacks, lotion, lip balm, bar soap, baby soap, deodorant, washcloths, Q tips, adult women’s pants, flash drives.

OCWA 2015 Scholarship

The Orthodox Christian Women’s Association – Society of Myrrhbearing Women is proud to announce the 2015 Mary P. Hallick Scholarship Awards Program.

Two (2) scholarships will be awarded to Orthodox Christian women by the Orthodox
Christian Women’s Association of Wisconsin: The Society of Myrrhbearing Women.
One award of $500 will be presented to a senior high school student furthering her education
through either an associate’s degree at a technical college or a bachelor’s degree
from a college or university. The second scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to a graduate
student at the university level enrolled in postgraduate work.

Eligibility:

     • The applicant must be a practicing member of an Orthodox Christian
parish in Wisconsin.

     • The applicant must have a letter of recommendation from her parish priest.

Materials for judging:

         A. Completion of the Scholarship Application Form.
        B. High School transcript and either ACT or SAT score for High School Applicants.
        C. College transcript for Graduate Applicants.

The materials required for judging must be received by the Scholarship Selection Committee at the address below, no later than January 15th, 2015.

The two winners will be notified and must be present at the Thursday, February 19th,
2015 Scholarship Awards Dinner to receive their awards. If a winner attends an out-of-state
school, an immediate family member must be present to accept the award at the dinner
that evening.

Selection of Winners:

The Scholarship Selection Committee is an independent, impartial and unbiased religious
group from outside the Orthodox Christian community. They will determine the two
award winners. Their decision is final.

From HWY– take HWY 100 to College Ave, go east through Whitnall Park and cross over 92nd St (second stop sign). Go 1/3 mile to picnic site on South side of the road.

From 76th Street – Take Grange west to Root River Parkway, Turn Left and head South. At the fork in the road, stay right and go West. Our site is just over the bridge on the left.

OCWA Official Event – 6th Annual Educational Conference

The Orthodox Christian Women’s Association is presenting their 6th Annual Educational Conference.

Rev. Father Angelo Artemas, Pastor of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will be the kenote speaker. His presentation is entitled “Spiritual Inclinations from Infancy through Adolescence”.

Breakout sessions will be presented by Presbytera Mary P. Hallick, ED.D. and Hollie M. Benton, M.A. Presbytera Hallick’s presentation is entitled “Children: Martyrs through the Centuries” and Ms. Benton’s presentation is entitled “The Exodus: What Does God Do With Young Adults Who Wander in the Wilderness?”.

A continental breakfast will precede the presentations, and a luncheon will follow. The luncheon program includes a round of “Stump Your Parish Priest” as well as an award presentation.

A variety of books and icons will be available from the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral Bookstore along with exhibits on Orthodox Christian topics. In addition, OCWA items such as cookbooks, tote bags, and Presbytera Hallick’s books will also be on sale.

Registration is $40 for OCWA members; $45 for non-members; $25 for students (18-25 years old), and $25 for lunch only. Checks should be made payable to OCWA. Registration deadline is Friday, October 10. Registration can be made by mailing in the attached form.
